AICURD has set up a Craft Development Centre on Diversified Jute Products at Jalpaiguri with financial assistance provided by Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicraft), Government of India in the year 1998-99
A brief account of the activities organized by the Craft Development Centre (CDC) since its establishment is given below:
- The Craft Development Centre has enrolled 319 artisans for availing various services offered by it. Nearly one-third of the artisans enrolled belong to Schedule Castes.
- In all six Design Workshops have been organized by CDC. These Workshops had the benefit of guidance from Resource Person who had expertise in relevant subjects.
- The CDC participated in Fairs and Melas held at Jalpaiguri, Siliguri and Delhi.
- Two thousand pieces of Jute Knot Bags were supplied to and export agency.
- The CDC provided supportive services to the Central Board for Workers’ Education, Regional Directorate, and Siliguri in organising Five-day special Education Programme for Handicraft Workers at its premises.
