Yamuna Action Plan

As one of the partner NGOs in the implementation of People’s Participations and People Awareness component of Yamuna Action Plan (YAP) in Delhi, AICURD has been assigned the task of developing a Pilot Scale Model on Participatory Waste Management in Bhalaswa Resettlement Colony which could be later replicated in other part of the city. The overall objective is to set up a community based non-municipal model of waste management.
The following are the major achievements in the area of waste management since inception of the project in December 2001.

  1. Initiate ice-breaking and rapport building with community.
  2. Increased awareness in the community about importance of waste management through street plays, film shows, community meetings, rallies, exposure visits etc.
  3. Dissemination of messages on the need for pursuing waste collection and initiation of the process of waste collection.
  4. Identification of local persons who would act waste collectors.
  5. Training of waste collector in collection and disposal of waste in a safe manner.
  6. Provision of equipment for use in waste collection work.
  7. Selection of a site of Garbage Station and Composting.
  8. Completion of civil works at the site of Garbage Station.
